Abstract Position control is the main field of stepping motors applications. Recently, stepping motors are used in position and translation motion with poor performance in case of using open loop control. This thesis discusses field orientation control (FOC) for open loop control of two phase variable reluctance (VR) stepper motor. The specific contributions of the present thesis to this field of research are; a simplified mathematical model of 2-phase VR stepper motor is investigated, and also using two techniques of FOC which they are advanced turn-on and advanced turn off techniques has been also investigated.FOC is applied by convergence or divergence the switching on motor phases periods at certain speed at the best switching on and switching off angles to obtain maximum torque per ampere Ch/s, elimination of negative torque region, reducing motor losses and input power, increasing output power, and increasing motor efficiency. One of the most important stepper motor Ch/s is the stator current; its theoretical analysis is compared with the stator current produced from the experimental drive circuit for that motor which is implemented. |
