And to determine the most affected domain of quality of life of those children. METHODS: Our study was descriptive-analytical study. Our study population was children aged from 8-11 years suffering from CHD, they were 36 cases collected from Paediatric cardiology clinic of Suez Canal University Hospital in Ismailia and from the paediatric cardiology unit in Ain Shams University Hospital in Cairo. We used a disease specific questionnaire (ConQoL questionnaire), a socioeconomic status (SES) questionnaire and draw-a-man test for IQ as a tool for exclusion. Data were collected and tabulated and analyzed; using the SPSS package on an IBM compatible computer. RESULTS: CHD has a great negative impact on patients’ quality of life. Cyanotic CHD showed worse quality of life scores. Socioeconomic status correlates with the quality of life of those children, the better the SES the better the QoL and vise versa. The physical domain is the most affected domain in patients lives. CONCLUSIONS: CHD and chronic diseases in general has their impact on quality of life of children. Therefore, advances in the treatment of CHD should be accompanied by advances in the care patients receive to improve and maintain a reasonable quality of life for those patients. We recommend the following: 1- Health care professional should pay more attention to patient’s QoL as well as to their treatment. 2- Provide health education programs and supportive programs for those children and for their parents as well. |
