Abstract

Granular bases constitute a very important component in the flexible pavement structure, especially with thin asphalt cement (AC) covers. They provide the support for the asphalt layers and protect the subgrade from being overstressed. Unbound base layers deform under load and contribute to the accumulation of ruts. Therefore , this study is concerned with studying the effect of moisture content on vertical deformation characteristics of unbound granular base material. Four moisture contents are used in this research (optimum moisture content (OMC) , OMC –2% , OMC+1.5% and OMC+3% )
