Abstract

Two mall1 field experiments \\”~re conducted during the summer season of 1996 and both experiments \vere repeated in the summer season of 1997 at Sids Horticulture Research Station, ARC, Beni-Suef Governorate. The aim of each experiment was as follow:
l. First Experiment: Study the effect of nitrogen, potassium levels and their combinations on potato tuber seed production of two cultivars i.e. Diamant and Desiree. The nitrogen levels were 120, 180 and 240 kg N/fed. PotassiUITI levels \\”ere \ 00, 200 and 300 kg K.20/fcd. Nitrogen and potassium levels \\”ere splitted into two equal doses and applied after four and six weeks from planting.
1, Second Experiment: Aimed to study the effect of soaked whole and cut tuber in GA3 concentration on seed potato production. The concentration ofGA3 were 0, :2.5, 5.0 and 7.5 ppm where seed tubers were soaked in the prespecti\’e solution for 10 minutes before planting. The obtained data could be summarized as follows:
\. Plant height (em)
Plant height of Desiree cv. was signi ticantly higher than Diamant cv. md the highest plant height was obtained from plants fertilized with 180kg ’,and 200 kg K20/fed. for the interaction of cv. x N levels, Desiree cv. ~ave the highest value with 180kg ~”fed. for the interaction of cv. x K20,
siree gave the highest value when fertilized with 200 kg K20/fed.
,·Number of main stems/plant:
Number of main stems/plant of Diamant was significantly higher an Desiree. Nand K20 levels had no effects on this character. Interaction
etwcen cv. and N levels, Diamant at 120 kg N/fed. was significantly ncreased.
J. Vegetative portion fresh weight/plant :
Desiree cultivar produced signiticantly higher fresh weight/plant han Diamant. Whi Ie Nand K fcrti I izer levels and their interactions hDd no ffeet on this character.
,Dry matter percentage of the vegetative portion:
Dry matter % was significantly increased when plants fertilized with W or 240 kg N/fed. for Diamant cv.
- Total number of tubers and number of potato and tuber sIze (28-55m):
Diamant cv. had the highest values of total tubers yield and number [seed tubers per plot. Concerning nitrogen and potassium levels, 240 kg ’Ifed. and 300 kg K20 Ifed gave significant increases. Cultivars and K20 vels interactions, gave significant differences. The highest value was tained from Diamant cv. fertilized with 300 kg K20 Ifed. The interaction ’N x K20 showed a significant effect and the highest value was obtained :om 240 kg N Ifed. + 100 kg K20 Ifed.
- Weights of total production of tubers/plot and seed tuber (28-55mm) in size:
Diamant cv. possessed the higher total and seed tuber weights, ompared with Desiree. Concerning N levels, total yield and seed tubers eight signi ficantly increased with increasing N levels. The most effective ~atment was 240 kg N/fed. The same trend was noticed for K levels of iamant cv. which gave the highest values with the highest Nand K20 vels.
7- Nitrate concentration (ppm) in tuber:
Nitrate concentration (ppm) in tuber was significantly higher in Desiree c\”.than that in Diamant c\”. Nitrate concentration increased with increasing N levels. For K~O lc\-els it was clear that :::00 and 300 kg/feci. significantly increased nitrate concentration (ppm) in tuber. The interaction of cv. x N levels, declared that the highest nitrate value was obtained from Diamant CY”. x 240 Kg N. The same results obtained when 240 kg N + 200 Kg K10/fed. were used. The interaction of cv. x N x K~O levels showed that the highest nitrate value was obtained from Desiree c\”. x 120 Kg N x 200 Kg K10.
8- Dry matter (DM) and NPK uptake In the vegetative portion (kg/fed.):
Desiree cv. showed significant increase in all mentioned characters compared with Diamant cv. All mentioned characters were significantly increased when applied 180 kg N :fed. Applying K~O at 300 kg/fed. resulted in a significant increase in [\iPK uptake. Concerning the interaction cv. x N levels, using 180 kg N ’vvith Desiree cv. significantly increased NPK uptake. Applying 100 kg K:O/fed. to Desiree cv. significantly increased OM and P uptake. Regarding the interaction cv. x N X K10 levels, the highest DM values was obtained when treated Desiree cv. with 240 kg N + 100 kg K10 feci .. Meanwhile, the highest value of nitrogen uptake was obtained when Desiree c\”. was fertilized with 180 kg N + 300 kg K10. Diamant cv. showed significant increase in all mentioned characters compared with Desiree cv. Using 240 kg N/fed. or 300 kg K10/fed. gave similar results. Applying 240 kg N /fed. for plants of Diamant cv. significantly increased DM and KP uptake in tuber. \Vhile, 300 kg K10 for Diamant cv. resulted in OM and K10 in the highest uptake values. The highest values of OM and KP uptake were obtained from 240
·N + 300 kg K20. The intt:?raction of cv. x N X K20 levels, showed that amant cv. with 240 kg N + 300 kg K20 gave the highest OM value.
-In general, the obtained data indicated that it may be recommended to ant potato seeds of cv. ”Diamant” and fertilizing the resultant plants with ~ kg Nand 300 kg K20/fed. to produce high yields of different tuber les including the seed tubers.
Plant height:
t Whole seed tuber possessed the highest values of plant height compared with cut seed tuber.
t All GA3 concentrations had no effect on plant height.
·Number of main stems /plant :
Whole seeds tuber significantly increased number of mam /ms/plant. GA3 cone. gave significant effect. The highest value was ained from seed tuber treated with GA3 at the rate of 5 ppm.
·Fresh weight of the above ground portion (g)/plant:
Cut seed tuber caused statistically signiticant increase In the herb ~sh weight. GA3 gave significant differences, where the highest value was 1tained from seed tuber treated with 2.5 ppm GA3. The interaction etween tuber seed x GA3 cone. showed that cut seed tuber treated with jppm GA3 gave the highest herb fresh weight
