Abstract Four field experiments were conducted at Mallawi &gricu1- ural Research Station, during 1977/78, 1978/79 and 1979/80 seasons to study the effect of some cultural practices on sets production as well as on growth, yield and quality of onion grown froi sets. The results of 1978/79 season were excluded because of dense weed population. t- This experiment was planned to study the effect of 3 seeding rates, (25, 50 and 75 kg/feddan), two irrigation regimes (60, 80% F.C.), and 3 nitrogen levels, 0, 50 and 100 kg nitrogen per feddan. On the production of sets. Results obtained were as follows: 1— Increasing seed rate up to 50 kg per feddan ignifioantJr increased total yield, and decreased significantly size of sets. 2- There was a significant increase in yield of sets with higher irrigation regime i.e., 80% F.C. size of sets was not markedly affected by irrigation regimes. 3— Addition of 50 kg nitrogen per feddan significantly increased yield and size of sets. Higher nitrogen level gave no further increase, |
