Abstract - Removal of all lateral femoral and tibial osteophytes. - Release of the posterolateral capsule from the proximal tibia with electro-cautery then by a curved periosteal elevator. - Titrated intra-articular release of the lateral capsule and iliotibial band by multiple stab incisions done at and above the joint line with application of moderate stress on the lateral compartment. Balancing was frequently checked by spacer blocks to avoid over-correction. - Popliteus tendon, if tight, was divided sharply at its femoral insertion. - Lateral collateral ligament was preserved to limit posterolateral instability. However, if palpation demonstrated LCL tightness it could be released from the femoral attachment by a curved periosteal elevator. |
