Abstract
Joint replacement surgery is one of the greatest medical advances in orthopedic surgery, the most important and devastating cause of its failure is prosthetic infection Types of prosthetic infections 1- Acute post operative infection: occurs in the firt 4 weeks 2- Chronic post operative infection: occurs in the first 2years 3- Haematogenous infection: occurs any time post operative due to haematogenous seeding Risk factors a)host factors i- age ii- obesity iii- diabetes mellitus iv- nicotine use v- immuno suppressive drugs vi- Presence of remote infection.
