Abstract

The present investigation aimed to evaluate the susceptibility of the honeybee workers, Apis meilifera L. to some of the most commonly used pesticides in Egypt and to find out the practical methods for protecting honeybee colonies from pesticides applied in the field.
The experiments were carried out in the farm of Agriculture Colleage, Assiut University and Sohag gover— norate during 1988 and 1989 seasons.
1— Laboratory toxicity of insecticides toward honeybee workers:
Fourteen insecticides representing synthetic pyreth— raids, organophosphate, carbamate and chlorenated hydrocarbon insecticides were tested topically against honeybee workers in the laboratory. The insecticides can be ranked in a descending order of toxicity based on LU50 values as follows: deltamethrin (L050 0.092 Ig/g) cypermethrin V 0.099 tg/q) , suiprofos V 0.104 [Ig/g) chioropyrifos V 0.144 Mg/g) dieldrin V 0.293 ig/g) endrin V 0.383 g/g), profenofos V 0.39 ‘gIg), Reldan V 0.83 tg/g) , carbaryl : Du Pont 1642 V 0.97 -‘g/g) fiucythrinate V 1.255 tg/g) , methomyl V 1.27 tg/q) phosfolan V 1.408 Ig/q) and fenvalerate V 3.346 ‘gIg) honeybee workers showed a low level of homoqen I Ly howard most of the insecticides tested.
