Abstract

Since the prevalence of renal and urological disorders among
children in our country is not known, this study was designed to
screen the urine of children in Menoufiya governorate for detection of
silent urinary abnormalities and renal diseases.
This study was considered as a part of project for screening of
renal and urological disorders inMenufiya governorate.
The present study was designed to study the prevalence of renal
and urological disorders in hospitalized non renal patient screened for
abnormal renal function tests(blood urea and serum creatinine) and
abnormal urine analysis in population of apparently healthy children
of both sexs and variable ages, born and continue to reside in
Minoufiya governorate.
In this study ,age of children ranged from 1to 60 month in
pediatrics with mean and standred deviation 12.36+-11.43.In neonates
the age ranged from 1to 27 days with mean and standred
deviation5.18+-5.68
In this study 7.3% of children in pediatric age were living in
urban areas while 92.7% were living in rural arers. In neonates 9.6% of
neonates were living in urban areas while90.4% were living in rural
areas.
In this study 63.7% of chosen pediatrics were admitted due to
repiratory diseases,31.9% due to gastro entritis ,2% due to blood
diseases and 2.9% due to other variable causes. In neonates 19.1%
were admitted due to respiratory diseases,40.4% due to

jaundice,24.2% due to L.B.W 4.5 % due to sepsis 1.1% due to
prematurity and 10.7% were due to other variable causes.
The study showed that no association between
(age, residence, cause of hospitalization) and impaired kidney function
tests This study showed that blood urea level ranged from 6 to 33 in
pediatrics with mean and standred deviation 14.58+- 4.69 .In neonates
blood urea level ranged from 10 to 30 with mean and standred
deviation 15.58+-3.94 . In the same time serum creatinine level ranged
from 0.4 to 2.0 with mean and standred deviation 0.64+-0.24 in
pediatrics while in neonates serum creatinine ranged from 0.4 to 1.8
with mean and standred deviation 0.64+-0.23
This study showed that the prevalence of impaired renal function
tests among children in pediatric age was( 5.2%) while in neonates it
was (4.5%) depending on measurement of blood urea and serum
creatinine levels.
In this study The prevalence of proteinuria in the studied cases
was 3.6% In this study the prevalence of hematuria in asymptomatic
children With various ages, sexes and socioeconomic standards, were
4.8% This study revealed that the prevalence of urinary tract infection
was 2.8 % among pediatric children There was no significant
difference in the UTI prevalence among children of different age
groups.
