Abstract Spondylolisthesis is defined as aslipping forward of one vertebra on another The origin of the word is derived from Greek word derivatives ‘’Spondylos’’ meaning vertebra and ‘’Olisthesis’ ’meaning to slip One of the most useful classification of spondylolysis and spondylolisthesis appears to be that compiled by Wiltse, et al 1976 (2) ; type1 Dysplastictype2 : isthmic ,lesion located in the pars interarticularis ,type3 :degenerativetype4 :traumatic ,type5 : pathologic. The condition is most commonly seen at the lumbosacral junction. (3) Spondylolysis is present in about 5%-6%of adult population. Isthmic spondylolisthesis is the most common type in both children and adult.(3)The vast majority of patients can be treated non-operatively.(1) Pain remains the primary indication for surgery. (4) Neurological deficits, if present constitute a more certain surgical indication. |
