Abstract Patient teaching is a professional responsibility ofnurses and one of their most important independent functions. By virtue of her professional license, a nurse has the right and duty to provide information a patient needs to maximize hislher chances of achieving restored health. This study was carried out at the Chest Department, Assiut University HospitaL to assess the relaxation training and respiratory exercise effects on blood gas, pulmonary function, dyspnea and anxiety scores in patients with COPD. It included 60 patients with COPD. Patients were divided into two groups, each one included 30 patients. The first group of patients were under medical treatment and routine nursing care without training (control group). while the second group of patients were under medical treatment and routine nursing care with training (study group). The arterial blood gases, respiratory function tests, dyspnea and anxiety SCOR tests were performed for both the control and study groups (1st & after 2 weeks, and 1st and Sth day and after 2 weeks). The results of the present study indicated that the study group of patients had better blood gases, respiratory function tests, dyspnea and anxiety scores, in contrast with the control group patients scores . |
