Abstract

This thesis includes seven chapters which may be summerized as follows :-
Chapter 1. The Introduction which includes energy crisis in the world. It discusses the Historical review of thepvps and its advantages in details . Also , it includes the new contributions in the thesis.
Chapter 2. Illustrates the layout of ESS, the feeding system of Elminia city and a discription of the different distribution panels which already installed, which is under construction and which is suggested. Also it contains the normal operation scheme of ESS 132/33/11 KV for 132 KV outdoor switchgear, 33 KV indoor switchgear , 11 KV indoor switchgear and 0.4 KV service system.
Chapter 3. This chapter presents a review of the theory and appliication of the photovoltaic effect with special emphasis on solar energy conversion. The development of the photovoltaic effect from an interresting scientific phenomenon into one of the most efficient methods yet devised for converting solar energy directly into electrical energy
discussed. Furthermore, the solar cells module , panel and array are described. On the other hand, types of energy storage are classified taking their performance into account. Finally this chapter includes the previous work in photovoltaics for the Egyptian enviroment.
Chapter 4. The first task of this chapter is to estimate the monthly average insolation incident on tib’ted surface for Elminia site whose latitude, 0 is 28.05 N°.
The second task is to estimate the power required at the year 2000 for Elminia city, then the excess demand power which represents the difference between power required at year 2000 and the existing power has been determined.
The third task is to calculate the required solar cells area (SCA) for PVPS using the radiation obtained in the first task and the demand power obtained in the second task. The fourth task is to estimate the total monthly energy produced by PV system.
Chapter. 5. This chapter contains a summary of PVCPS design which is briefly discussed in Ch.4. A complete block diagram of PVCPS with
a brief explaination of each parameter has been represented .A complete relaying system for PVCPS is discussed. Types & rating of the installed equipments in ESS 132/33/11 are discussed in details on 132 KV, 33 KV and 11 KV side.
The installed protection system of the main transformers l32/33/llKV / 132 KV transmission lins, 33 KV lines and 11 KV feeders are explained These ratedvalues of the installed protective system had been comppared with the calculated ones after interconnection of PVPS with ESS and some modification approaches had been offered to use the opttimum solution of the protection problem due to interconnection of PVPS with ESS.
Chapter.6. In this chapter the problem is clearly defined as the interconnection of PV system which designed in the previous chapter with ESS . One of the most effective difficulty du~ to this interrconnection is the design of the protective devices needed after building this interconnection. In this chapter the impact of diffferent types of emergency conditions such as shunt faults and seris faults had been discussed. These faults occur at the selected points on both 132 KV & 11 KV BUS Bars. The fault calculations had been PVPS with ESS. A comparative study of the results of these appliications with the rated values of the installed protect~re devices had been made. After this study it is easy to determine which protective devices can be modified and which ones can be added.
