Abstract
Postpartum period is very important because the mother is faced with many adjustments, physiological as well as psychological. Repair of injury to the birth canal, invomtion of the uterus. and return of the body’s systems to the non pregnant state. The newborn infant has important adaptations for the transition extrauterine life.
Aim of the study is to assess the care of pregnant mothers during puerperium period.
The present study was carried out on 150 mothers (from urban and rural area) they were chosen on systemic random base from those coming for Antenatal care of herself from Maternal and child health center in Abnoub district.
The interview of the mothers included questions about schedule of postnatal COMe of herself and her baby (Knowledge and practice), care of herself include, perineal care. breast care, nutrition, rest, position Ambulation, exercise, bathing and proper time of sexual relation, care of her baby include: Warmth of baby, position during puerperium, skin care, breast feeding, cord d£essin~ maintain baby dean, immunization, gradual weaning and diaper care.
. The sudy revealed following: -Motbers knowledge about postpartum care are defective in the following points: breast care, exercise, ambulation, cord dressing of her baby, time of immunization The mothers practice about postpartum care of herself are defective in the following points: -Correct method of perineal care. using running water during perineal care.
doing perineal care after defecation and urination. -breast care, -position of mother after delivery -exercises -bathing during puerperium -proper time of sexual relation.
-Mothers practice about post partum care of baby are defective in the following points: -Method used to maintain baby clean -cord dressing. -babybath (Skin care).
-This defects return to the believe of mother or community and father demand.
