Abstract

Avian influenza virus has socio-economic importance all over the world.
After the evolution of H5N1 in Hong Kong 1996 and spread in Asia,
Europe, Africa with interspecies transmission and increasing human
deaths threatening the world with a global pandemic. Emerging of Highly
Pathogenic Avian influenza (H5N1) in Egypt causes severe losses due to
high mortality or culling of poultry.
Isolation of 15 samples obtained from different farms and inoculated on
ECE via allantioc cavity and the fifteen samples grew on the eggs and
gave positive HA activity after 72 hr.
All of fifteen samples were grown on MDCK cell line in the absence of
trypsin and gave cytopatheic effect during 72 hr.
Confirmation of growth of all the 15 positive HA samples was done by HI
test to confirm the growth of influenza virus only.
