Abstract
Bacterial meningitis is a medical emergency and is common in manyareas of the tropics having significant mortality rate, especially in children.In addition to its high mortality rate, BM carries a high risk of neurological sequelae and so our study was done to identify the etiology of meningitis cases in Menouf fever hospital, describe the epidemiological characteristics of each type of meningitis and to be aware with early symptoms and signs for early detection and proper management.The study was designed to include all patients clinically suspected to have meningitis and admitted to Menouf Fever Hospital (from 1month to15 years old) in the time period from 1st January 2010 to 31th December 2010, and the children (Total number 147) were divided into three groups according to age [Group A (GA) Infant: from one month to one year (n=68;39 boys, 29 girls), Group B (GB) Preschool age: from one year to Five years (n=34;17 boys,17 girls)and Group C (GC) School age: from Five years to fifteen years (n=45;26 boys,19 girls)].
