Abstract Menopause is an important time in a woman’s life, her body going through changes that affect her quality of life (QOL). This research is a descriptive study design having two main aims; 1) assessing the effect of menopausal symptoms (M.S) on women’s QOL and 2) assessing their practice of relief measures regarding most common M.S. Data were collected by the researcher from 120 menopausal women attending the primary health care centers using interviewing questionnaire sheet. The study indicated that, sexual and psychological symptoms are the most common symptoms reported by the sample. Most menopausal women tended to seek medical care for physical symptoms only. Statistical significant relation was found between M.S and QOL and level of education, occupation, marital status and family income and between coping mechanism and level of education and occupation . There was a negative statistical significant relation between QOL and M.S,while there was a positive statistical significant relation between QOL and coping mechanism. It was concluded that M.S affect women’s QOL negatively and recommended that developing and disseminating educational material to raise women and community awareness about menopausal symptoms, needs (especially psychological needs and nutrition) and possibility of symptomatic treatment. |
