Abstract periments were conducted at the farm of Assiut University to study, sugar cane tolerance to salinity and the behaviour of the plant when salinized gradually. Therefore, a field experiments and drum culture technique experi— nient were carried out since 1964 — 1966. The hazard of salinity on cane, in a young stage and its later effect on cane development and characteristics was one of the math purposes of the investigation. Field experinents were designed to find out the effect of different waters of different salinity level on sugar cane when planted; i.e. irriation with saline water started with planting. That experiment showed the effect of saline water on cane in bud stage and geniination. The most important aim of the work was to study the tolerance of sugar cane during its vegetative stage after the complete development of its roots systeut. Therefore, in another experiment the cane was irrigated with the saline water after three months from the planting date. The work was planned to inform farniers about the effect of irrigation with saline water from the planting |
