Abstract Pulmonary tuberculosis is a major cause of morbidity and mortality world wide, resulting in the greatest number of deaths due to any one single infectious agent. Drug resistance threatens global tuberculosis control efforts. Multi drug resistance means drug resistance to at least rifampicin and isoniazid. This study included 26 patients who were MDR patient selected from Abbassia chest hospital in the year 2005. All patients were subjected to the following: - Detailed history. - Meticulous general and local chest examination. - Plain chest x-ray film. - Tuberculin test. - Sputum examination for acid-fast bacilli. - Fasting and postprandial blood sugar. - CBC, ESR, liver and kidney functions. - Culture of the sputum samples on L-J media. - This study included 26 MDR patients selected from Abbassia chest hospital in the year 2005 there were 18 male, and 8 female the mean age group was 37.8 rang between 17 years to 60 years. - The distribution of MDR patient according their type fresh cases (12) 46.7% defaulter (5) 19.7% and relapse 9 (34.66%). X-ray picture showed that 26.9% of the studied cases were far advanced 30.8% all the studied cases were minimal advanced while the 42.3% were moderate advanced. |
