Abstract

In this study, a design manual for designing cold formed steel with ECP eJ using the load and resistance factor design is fully described and cleared, the terms used in the design of cold fonned steel and in LRFD are fully described in this research in addition to a comparison between the ECP el using the allowable stress design and ECP e] using the load and resistance factor design regarding the cold formed sections is formed out by solved examples with both methods, and the same examples are solved with both methods but according to the AISI specifications.
The comparison target is to clarify the difference in design between ECP eJ and ECP eJ trying . to prove that the ECP eJ acquires the maximum section capacity in the design saving in the material cost, the description and the comparison is applied on a range of sections providing more information about the design of different sections of cold formed.
The description and the comparison is carried out for single-channel C-shape , U-shape , double¬channel C-shape and U-shape sections subjected to pure compression or subjected to bending moment and shear force.
The design procedures are presented in tables and charts, also the comparison results are presented in tables, that easy and summarized presentation may help in under standing the . erence in design methods and would facilitate for the user the design with the ECP eJ.
