Abstract
The main objective of the present study is to investigate the effect of several characteristics related to the dikes on the local scour and sedimentation in rivers.
In the theoretical study, dimensional analysis is used to develop expressions related to the main characteristics of the flow on the local scour and sedimentation in the rivers due to the presence of dikes. These characteristics are the spacing between dikes, width of dikes, flow depth, when the dikes are perpendicular to the flow direction.
The problem is investigated experimentally in the cement pipe factory at Damanhur city beside El Khndk canal because of the facilities there. Thirty experimental runs were conducted.
Statistical analysis, used to analyze the experimental data and regenerate the necessary characteristics design equations to predict the local scour and sedimentation in the rivers related to the presence of dikes.
Finally different Relationships were derived to relate the scour depth and sedimentation height to different parameters.
