Abstract
The present investigations were carried out to slmdy effect of two alkylating agents; ie. Ethanol rniaine
Diethyl amine (DA) and I—irradiation on Giza 150, I local Triticurn ilre variety. The study included
immediate effects of each mutagen on the treated seeds
eoh were .ilanted ixm•ediately and the dry—hack effects re the treated seeds were dried back for three weeks ore planting.
With respect to the effect of the different mutagens the germination percentage, it was found that the low oncentrations of 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 percent of (EA) did not rect the germination. When the treated seeds were 1anted immediately, the gennination percentage was significantly reduced due to the immersion only in 2.5 percent of EA while when the treated seeds were dried—back the treatments with 2,0 and 2.5 (EA) affected the germinat— ion significantly. Therefore, the dry—back effect proved to be more efficient in affecting the germination than when the seeds were planted immediately due to storing the chemical mutagen for a longer time within the seeds. On the other hand, all the concentrations up to 0.28 percent.
