Abstract The aim of the current study is to investigate the possible harmful effect of exposure to EMR from mobile phone in the rats. This work investigated the biochemical, cytogenetical, DNA strand break by comet assay and histopathological effects induced by electromagnetic waves (900 MHz) exposure and the protective role of vitamin c as an antioxidant against possible oxidative damages induced by EMW in rats. The biochemical study revealed high significant decrease in acetylcholinestrase tissue level, high significant decrease in SOD tissue level, high significant increase in MDA tissue level and high significant decrease in serum level of testosterone. The cytogenetic study in this work revealed the presence of different types of chromosomal aberrations. This study also revealed increase of micronuclei in polychromatic erythrocytes (PCEs). There was high significant increase in DNA damage. The histopathological study in this work revealed appearance of dark neurons in the cerebral cortex in the brain and showed disorganization and some loss in spermatogenic cells in seminiferous tubules in the testes of rats after chronic exposure. No histopathological changes revealed in the liver. |
