Abstract

Nephrotic Syndrome is characterized by proteinuria, hypoalbuminemia, and
hyperlipidemia. The first noticeable outcome of all these metabolic deviations is edema or
bloating of the body. It is the major clinical manifestation and presenting symptom in
approximately 95-99% of cases with Nephrotic Syndrome. An occasional patient of Nephrotic
Syndrome presents with gross hematuria. Acute nephritic syndrome is associated with an
active immunological response (cellular and antigen/antibody mediated) within the kidney.
Phytotherapy is the treatment and prevention of disease using plants, plants parts, and
preparations made from them. The plants traditionally used in phytotherapy are called
medicinal plants, or herbs like Parsley, Khella and Halfa Bar. Parsley improve urination when
it is painful or incomplete and accelerates the excretion of toxins, and help prevent the body’s
re-absorption of salt and to free the body of excess mercury as a diuretic. In the treatment of
kidney stones, Khella is said to relax tubes and ducts to the bladder, allowing the stones to
pass. Khella ability help the urinary passages heal after the trauma of passing kidney stones
by preventing irritation and spasms in the urinary canal. In Egypt, Halfa Bar the plant is
widely used in the folk medicine as an effective renal antispasmodic and diuretic. Thus, thes
study aimed to evaluate the effect of these plants against kidney disease and immune status.
The results concluded that during feeding on Parsley, Khella seeds, Halfa Barr and their mix.
percent decreases for (SCr *), (SU*) and (SUA*) ranged from (6.3 % to 74.7 %), (16.9 % to
71.3 %), and (7.8 % to 42.3 %), respectively. Maximum improve of UNa recorded for 5 %
mix. group 88.52±0.0836 mmol/d, and the highest improvement of UK recorded for 10 %
mix. group and 10 % Halfa Barr group (6.14±0.114 mmol/d) and (6.34±0.207 mmol/d),
respectively. High percent decreases of AST, ALT and ALP recorded for 10 % mixture
groups (-79.0 %, -77.7 %, and -75.0 %, respectively. The highest percent increases of A/G
ratio recorded for 5 % Halfa Barr group ; being 57.5 %. Maximum improvement of the serum
levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides, and total lipids and different lipoproteins were
recorded for 10 % mix. group. All groups except 5 % Parsley group caused more recovery of
original glucose than that recorded for control -ve normal group. In both of them , the
maximum improvement of the UCr. and UU concentration recorded for the 10% mix. groups
(3.46±0.167 and 508.4±0.217 mg /d, respectively). Highest percent of recovery creatinine
clearance, lymphocytic transformation index, phagocytes percent were recorded for the 5 %
and 10% mix. groups. High improve of killing of leucocytes recoded for 10% mix., 5 % mix.
and 10 % Halfa Barr, it were (75.4±2.607, 74.6±3.209, and 73.9±1.746 %), respectively.
