Abstract

The causes of implant failure are numerous; it may be related to the implant, the surgeon, or the patient. In this study, causes related to implants were physical properties such as tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, ductility…ect. Also, pitfalls related to the patient had been discussed and finally and the most important factor which is related to operation which may be preoperative as timing of operation or planning, intraoperative as technique of surgery and lastly postoperative as rehabilitation programs and follow up.
The failure rate of implants can be decreased by different methods as choosing the proper material for the proper situation, proper technique, in a proper patient. And through our study on twenty five patients, we have done statistical study and results are discussed to know pitfalls which could happen with different methods of long bone fractures and how to avoid it Finally, orthopedic surgeons and implant manufacturers should cooperate together to improve the properties of implant materials to decrease its drawbacks and to keep implant complications away from their patients.
