Abstract

Tobacco is the single greatest preventable cause of death in the
world today, killing up to half the people who use it. More than 1 billion
people, about one quarter of adults worldwide, currently smoke tobacco.
Tobacco use currently kills approximately 5.2 million people worldwide
each year, a figure expected to increase to more than 8 million a year by
2030. Half of those deaths occur between the ages of 30 and 69 years,
resulting in a loss of 20–25 years of life for smokers versus non-smokers
(Mathers and Loncar, 2006). Unless current trends change, the vast
majority of these deaths are expected to occur in developing countries
(Jha, 2006). Tobacco use is common throughout the world due to low
prices, aggressive and widespread tobacco company marketing, lack of
awareness about its dangers and inconsistent public policies against its
use (Report on the Global Tobacco Epidemic, 2008).
The aim of the current study was to increase the school nurses’
knowledge and attitude toward smoking prevention. Followed by increase
in their students’ knowledge and attitude toward smoking .
