Abstract

Nowadays, information technology is playing an important role in the progress of business
systems. Recently, Business Intelligence has been implemented to improve the business
management systems performance. Business Intelligence technologies are capable of
combining today’s information management systems to derive accurate daily information by
translating strategic objectives into measurable indicators. One of the most complex domains
in Business Intelligence is stock trading where millions of investors are investing their
capitals in buying and selling shares through different stock markets everyday.
During the past decades, the agent technology has proven their capabilities in solving
the growing number of complex problems in the context of information management and
decision-making. Therefore, agent-based systems have been introduced to the Business
Intelligence applications to provide machine based intelligence and better data management
capabilities due to their autonomy, reactivity and mobility.
The presented work is a novel intelligent distributed architecture, which addresses the
design and development of a Web-Role-Based Multi-Agent System for implementing
Business Intelligence philosophy. The system was designed and implemented to create a
consistent environment where agents can interoperate and interact to capture, filter and
organize information resulting in accurate daily information in order to be implemented in the
. decision making process.
The presented Multi-Agent System is multi-layered system, which provides an
intelligent model of interactions that is based on roles to support agents in the management of
their interactions. The proposed system is able to support the development of applications at
the main phases together with the runtime execution. Moreover, the system can be easily
adapted to different application scenarios and can evolve keeping a good modularity.
Stock trading was chosen as the system area of application, since it is considered as
one of the most complex domains in Business Intelligence. The system application is a Web
Role-Based Multi-Agent System where agents can interoperate and interact to capture, filter
and organize the trading information to help investors in stock trading through the Egyptian Exchanges.
