Abstract

In modem times when urban growth reached a noticeably high rate, special emphasis has been put on environmental and natural resources .Other ecological issues concerning the impact of living organisms on each other as well as on their surroundings mainly, man and his man made settlements and the natural untouched resources were also a main part of concern.
This research describes one practical method that allows exploring and managing our impact on the environment .Using Ecological Footprint analysis it is possible to estimate the area of land that would be necessary to sustainably support consumption levels.
The Ecological Footprint is about humanity’s continuing dependence on nature and what we can do to secure Earth’s capacity to support a humane existence for all in the future.
The aim of this study is to research and analyze resource use data for Alexandria, resource flow and ecological footprint analyses served to provide information on which to make evidence based policy; helps in making Alexandria a sustainable city. To achieve this goal of the study; first we had to defining the extent of the problem, and discussing global concerns for finding means of handling it, which is force to study a literature review covering previous experience as well as earlier fields of research, a brief account of the different components of the urban context as well as natural environmental resources, according to different opinions .That is leading to the sustainable development.
By studying the ecological footprint and sustainability with using the concepts of human carrying capacity and natural capital, such to study the ecological perspective in order to achieve the urban development .This helps in measuring sustainability. After that by analysis the ecological footprint, this shows how to calculate simple ecological footprints for a range of different activities, such as energy and materials use, travelling, eating and waste generation . These are presented in such a way as to make ecological footprint analysis more accessible to community, local authorities, corporations and organizations, individuals and others without access to detailed resource and pollution data .
Finally studying the case study for the ecological footprint of Alexandria (city limits), finding how its look like, comparing it with the world average and other cities; such as London, G.B .and giving some recommendations as a result of the study.
