Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the anticarcinogenic effect of yoghurt whey, garlic, α- tocopherol/ selenium and β- carotene/ vitamin C in rats treated with NDPhA & NETU compared with both –Ve& +Ve control rats. The following parameters were determined: nitrite in urine and plasma, plasma MDA, triacylglycerols, total cholesterol, and HDL- cholesterol, hepatic microsomal MDA, proteins, glutathione S- transferase and superoxide dismutase. The study revealed that the administration of the carcinogenic compounds induced significant changes in the above mentioned parameters. Additionally, significant changes were recorded due to both time factor and dietary supplements. As a conclusion garlic followed by yoghurt whey supplementation succeeded in recording a remarkable antagonistic effect for the oxidative stress induced by the tested carcinogens.
