Abstract

Klebsiella pneumoniae was isolated from different samples obtained from farm animals in an incidence of 16.07 %.The incidence of isolation from
cows, buffaloes, sheep, goats and camels were 20.00%, 18.57%, 12.80 %, 12.63% and 10.91 %, respectively. K. pneumoniae subsp. pneumoniae, K. pneumoniae subsp. ozaenae and K. pneumoniae subsp. rhinoscleromatis were identified with percentages of 72.34%, 22.34% and 5.32%, respectively of total isolates (94). SOS-PAGE analysis of CPSs of K. pneumoniae I subspecies revealed 10-13 bands of molecular weights, which ranged from 15.52 kOa to 106.29 kOa. Mice immunized with CPSs of K. pneumoniae subspecies revealed highest immune response (measured by ELlSA and IHA test) 14 days post 1 st dose of immunization. The sensitivity of ELlSA using CPSs extracted from K. pneumoniae subsp. pneumoniae, K. pneumoniae subsp. ozaenae and K. pneumoniae subsp. rhinoscleromatis was 85.11 %, 79.79 % and 81.91 %, respectively. While the specificity of the test was 93.48 %,92.06 % and 94.30 %, respectively.
