Abstract In an immunologic and ecologic approach to the control of IBDV viral infections early after their discovery in the poultry farms the use of oral ministration of hyper-immune chicken IgY was investigated. It was necessary rus to investigate methods of hyper-immune IgY preparation, IgY preservation, y was prepared for immunologic testing and IBDV infection/challenge models Two methods for preparation of hyper-immune IgY were tested, and such preparations were tested using a commercial ELl SA. IgY preparations with the llest specific IgY content were selected for the control of IgY outbreaks in our A new model for IBDV infection was developed to simulate natural infection of e virus in commercial poultry farms. The model involves the eye-DROP infection of only 2 chicks within a susceptible population with the virulent IBDV and mmediately placing them with the rest of the susceptible population. The infected lfOuP was kept without changing of the bedding material for several days to insure successful exposure and transmission of the virus to the rest of the susceptible up. It was able to achieve infection rates up to 100%. |
