Abstract

The present study was undertaken to determine the effectiveness of studying fundamental toxicology by using a Computer Assisted Learning (CAL) program. Two hundreds fourth year veterinary students were randomly assigned to two groups; either to attend a series of conventional lectures (n = 100) or to have the same material available through a CAL program (n = 100). A multiple choice question and a final written examination were performed after the course. Students were asked to fill in an evaluation form (questionnaire) at the end of the study. The CAL group showed a significant improvement in examination score compared to the traditional group and the students, who completed an evaluation of the CAL program, rated it better than the standard lectures. It has been concluded that CAL is an effective way of increasing knowledge in teaching undergraduates fundamental toxicology.
