 This study shows the following results
The prevalence of the negative symptoms found to be higher among the inpatients, than the outpatients.
Negative symptoms score was found to be correlated with female gender, unemployment, low social class, low level of education, severe functional impairment and with the residual subtype of schizophrenia.
Also, the relationship between negative symptoms and marital status in the whole sample and the outpatient population revealed inconsistent findings.
Furthermore, there was an insignificant correlation between most of the items of negative symptoms of PANSS and age of the patients
The findings also showed a positive correlation between some negative symptoms and the duration of admission of the patients.
Moreover, our findings showed that most of the inpatients in the sample were females, unemployed, never married, and no significant correlation was found between the inpatients and outpatients as regard the parental consanguinity, family history and social class score.
Also, most of the patients received typical antipsychotics.
