Abstract

This work was carried out on a total number of 147 dogs and 90 cats, suffering from different abdominal surgical affections. 144 dogs and 69 cats were examined in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, Small Animal Clinic (Justus- Liebig- University) in Giessen, Germany at the period from June 2008 until May 2010. In addition to 3 dogs and 21 cats were examined in the Surgery Department, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Zagazig University, Egypt during the period from June 2010 until November 2010.
In the present study 38 dogs and 23 cats were examined ultrasonographically for gastrointestinal tract (G.I.T) surgical affections.
In Germany, 12 dogs suffered ileus due to parasitic infestations or obstructed foreign bodies. 3 dogs were with full stomach wall thickening. 7 cases suffered intestinal tumours. 3 cases were ultrasonographically examined for assessing gastropexy site. 2 cases with suspected stomach foreign bodies revealed hyperechoic structure in the stomach with clear distal acoustic shadowing. 2 cases with necrosed intestine. 2 cases suffered focal stomach lesion (ulcer and gastritis). 1 case suffered gastritis and the other demonstrated ulcer with mild thickening of the stomach wall. 1 case suffered intestinal intussusception. 2 cases with perforated intestine. 1 case suffered volvulus nodosus.
