Abstract

Noise is defined as any unwanted sound that may adversely affect the health and well being of individuals or populations (Who, 1980). Physically speaking, noise is a complex sound having little or no periodicity. Physiologically, noise is a signal that bears no information and its intensity varies randomly in time. Psychologically, noise is any sound in respective of its waveform, which is unpleasant or unwanted (Alberti, 1997). Noise considered the most frequent cause of acquired hearing damage. Despite suitable measures for reducing noise pollution, many adults, adolescents and children expose themselves both voluntarily and involuntarily to noise on a long term basis (Plontke et al., 2004). Firearm is a common source of impulsive noise that may potentially damage hearing organ (Pawlaczyk et al., 2004). Representative studies have revealed that firearms sport plays a role amongst 2-12% of surveyed individuals. Shot noise can reach maximum sound pressure level of 173dB (Plontke et al., 2004).
