Abstract
The aim of this work was to evaluate the efficacy of intravenous hydrocortisone in the treatment of postdural puncture headache when added to the usual conservative methods.
The present study was carried out on forty parturients ASA I or II physical status in EL- Shatby obstetric and gynecology University Hospital scheduled for elective caesarian section. After arriving in the operating room, all parturients were given a rapid IV infusion of 1000 mL of lactated Ringer then they received 10 mg of hyperbaric bupivacaine 0.5% intrathecal . Immediately after the block, each parturient was placed supine with 15° to 20° of left uterine displacement. Oxygen 5 L/min will be given via a face mask during the surgery Intraoperative data included the heart rate and rhythm using electrocardiogram (ECG), mean arterial blood pressure, respiratory rate and arterial oxygen saturation (SpO2) were recorded at 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 45 and 60 minutes were recorded. Motor blockade (onset and the duration) was evaluated by using bromage scale, Sensory block (onset of analgesia, duration of analgesia, maximum segmental level, and time to attain this level) was detected by cold ice .
