Abstract Health risk behaviors can be a contributing factor as leading cause of mortality and morbidity during youth and extend into adulthood. The different types of behaviors are interrelated and are preventable. The aim of the present study was to assess the youth risk behaviors in Zagazig University and to explore the factors leading to youth risk behaviors. A cross-sectional analytical design was adopted to conduct this study) The study was conducted at ”two theoretical faculties” (Arts & Commercial) and ”two practical faculties” (Engineering & Physical education) at Zagazig University. Two tools were used to conduct this study. Results revealed that the majority of the studied sample never wear a seatbelt while driving. As regards violence behavior, more than two thirds of the students watch TV action and violence films. Regarding to health risk behaviors, more than half of the studied sample smoked for one or two times, the majority of the students were trying to lose weight and also the majority of the studied sample did not eat fresh fruits and vegetables. More than two fifths of them do not drink milk. The study recommended the enhancement of parent-adolescent interaction and closeness. Parents should be encouraged to deal with adolescents in a friendly manner, using positive disciplining techniques. a faculty staff members should have an effective role of by providing health education to students about healthy risk behavior prevention during the weekly meeting with them. |
