Abstract Our objectives to assess the serum level of C-reactive protein and interleukin-6 in middle aged women having migraine during headache-free period and to evaluate the association between these markers and migraine related features, in a case control study. Methods: Women (18 to 40 years) with and without migraine and free from cardiovascular disease were evaluated with tests of inflammation (C-reactive protein and IL-6). Results: 10 participants had migraine with aura (MA), 20 had migraine without aura (MO), and 20 were controls. Compared with controls, women with migraine had higher CRP and IL-6 levels, and normal level of Serum creatinine, Serum uric acid and lipid levels. Conclusions: in our study in a young female, our data support a strong relation between some biomarkers and migraine, including, CRP, IL-6 and no relation between other biomarkers and migraine, including, serum triglycerides, serum uric acid, serum creatinine. For, CRP, and serum IL-6, the association was stronger for MA, the subtype most closely linked to cardiovascular disease. |
