Abstract
The present study was designed to determine functional outcome
after rehabilitation in young stroke patients using both of the Modified Barthel Index, and Motoricity Index at the and of the 1 st week, 3rd week and 6th month of stroke. Fifty young stroke patients were selected from the Intensive Care Units, Neurology Department, and Internal Medicine Department of Zagazig University Hospitals with the age ranging from 18 years old to 40 years old with a mean of (34.8) ± 4.7 Standard protocol had been planned for all patients including the following: 1- Full history taking. 2- Careful general examination. 3- Thorough neurological examination. 4- Radiological confirmation using CT within first 48 hours of stroke and MRI for patients whose CT failed to detect any lesion so as to confirm presence of infarction in first 48 hours. 5- The following laboratory investigations: Blood glucose level on admission. Fasting and postprandial blood glucose. Lipid profile (Cholesterol, Triglycerides, high density lipoproteins and low densely lipoproteins. Complete blood picture. Erythrocyte sedimentation rate. Prothrombin time and partial thromboplastin Time Serum electrolytes.
