Abstract
Our work aimed to study the insulin level in patients
with PEM and to give them insulin injection as apetizer
and anabolic hormone for induction of rapid recovery.
For this purpose 30 patients with PEM (19 males and
11 females), their ages ranged between 6 to 36 months
(group I) and 10 healthy children (6 males and 4 females)
their ages ranged between 6 to 34 months (group 11), were
s ub j ec t e d to a full clinical history, complete clinical
examinations and the following laboratory investigations:
Fasting serum insulin.
Fasting blood glucose.
Oral glucose tolerance test.
Fast ing serum al bumin.
Fasting plasma t.otal protein.
In addition to the routine laboratory investigations as
(urine and stool analysis and complete blood count) and
x-ray chest.
Then, group I was divided into 2 subgroups:
group (la) included 20 PEM patients and were given
insulin injection in addition to the dietitic treatment.
included 10 PEM patients who were not given insulin injection with the dietitic treatment.
