Abstract

Due to the increasing importance of High Performance Concrete (HPC) for irrigation constructions, highways and buildings, it becomes an important subject for many researches all aver the world. This type of concrete solved many economical problems in the concrete field.
Moreover a great attention was focused by many researches to study two main types: (1) The suitability of the pozzolanic materials (local and artificial) and the different properties of the used aggregates for acceptance use in concrete, (2) The suitability of using this type of concrete in the irrigation construction. In this study, laboratory experiments were carried out to investigate the properties of HPC in irrigation works. The work plan was divided into three phases as follows:
1- Study the different properties of local pozzalane material (fly ash, silica fume, and water cooled slag).
2- Study the properties of different concrete mixes.
3- Investigate the behavior of durability for high performance concrete mixes by immersing them in a water sample from El-Salam Canal and compare them with the control sample immersed in fresh water.
The main findings of this research are:
• High values of strength of all types (compressive, splitting, flexural, modulus of elasticity and durability) were obtained of concrete with 15% silica fume as cement replacement.
• Use of water cooled slag as a partial fine aggregate replacement give accepted concrete quality when it is used in concrete mixture.
• Use of water cooled slag in concrete mixture in irrigation works gives an accepted reduction of concrete quality with time but it saves the capital cost of the project.
Conclusions:-
1-compreeive,splitting,and flexural strength development of concrete are related to mixture proportioning and type of pozzalane material used.
2-Higher values of strength of all tybes (combressive, sblitting , flexural,modulus of elasticity and durability)were btained of concrete with 15% silica fume cement replacement.the use of silica fume in concrete is very expensive due to its high cost.
3-Pozzalane material can be addwd to replace the amount of cement in concrete and give accepted result for concewte quality for irrigation water progects.
4-water cooled slag givhs accepted concrete quality when it is used in concrete mixtures.
