Abstract

Technological change provides a privilege viewpoint from which to understand the dynamics of globalisation.
The transmission of knowledge has never respected states borders, New technologies have always been international in scope The first part of the chapter starts by demonstrating the complex interplay between technological change and globalisation.
New technologies act as a powerful vehicle for the diffusion of information across distant communities, for example it is difficult to imagine the current globalisation of financial markets without the existence of new information and communication technologies, but at the same time the process of generating and diffusing of such new technologies has been strengthened by the lows of individuals, commodities and capital.
This has created a circular process where by technology has facilitated globalisation and vice versa.
Then the chapter in this part will adopt a narrower focus setting the globalisation of technology more specifically the globalisation of information technology within the context of economic globalisation, As the concept of globalisation has been applied to a wide variety of variables including social, political and cultural, in this section we will show the main processes which are often subsumed within the catch-all general term technological globalisation.
The end of this part will deal with the main factors which lead to the international diffusion of IT.
