Abstract

Sexual health may be achieved through the positive
integration of personal characteristics, resulting in the
successful expression of sexual nature (WHO, 1975). An
adequate understanding and appreciation of human sexuality
are important for the development of the physical,
emotional, intellectual and social life of every person.
The achievement of sexual maturity contributes much towards
happiness in marriage (WHO, 1987).
The main aim of this study was to assess knowledge and
reactions of uni versi ty students about sexuality and sex
education and to identify factors affecting students’
knowledge and reactions about sexuality and sex education.
The sample was composed of 170 males and 286 females of
first year university students. Data were collected using
a questionnaire and through group interview of students of
all faculties and institutions of higher education in Port
Said governorate, except the Faculty of Engineering and
Technology and the High Institute of Social Services.
The main findings of this study were:
The total mean of knowledge of different areas
regarding human sexuality was higher among males
(38.7±20.8) than females (21.4±17.7). The difference
between both sexes was statistically significant
(t=9.34, p<0.05).
