Abstract Trials were conducted to investigate the level of nulents (N, P, K and Ca) and heavy metals (Fe and Mn) accuJiation in different waterhyacinth parts (leaves, rhizomes nd roots) and 3 plant stages on dry weight basis. The same Iments in addition to S were also determined in the Nile ter at different locations. I Studies were also extended to investigate allelopathic fects of the emerged weed common reed on the growth of terhyacinth and germination and seedling growth of wheat, over, radish, rocketsalad and fenugreek. Survey of arthropods on waterhyacinth plants and bioical trials on the aphid Rhopalosiphum nymphaeae, a ansmitting viral disease agent reared on waterhyacinth ere also conducted. 1— Composition of waterhyacinth: 7 The results revealed that the non-flowered plants 170±10 gtn” (3rd stage) generally contained the highest mounts of N, K and P (1.178, 7.078% and 390.0 mg/l00 g plant) compared to other two stages (flowered plants ‘80±10 gm (2 stage) and non-flowered plants 1t70±lO gm” (l ‘/ stage), while the 2 stage contained the highest values of Ca (2.738%) compared to 3 and l stages. |
