Abstract SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS 1) The Nile fish, Tilapia nilotica, family Cichlidae represent the experimental animal of the present work. All of the specimens studied were obtained from the fish culture, belonging to the poultry farm of Faculty of Agriculture, Assiut University. 2) The aim of the present study was to compare between the effects of some pituitary hormones from varied sources on maturity of oocytes and spawning of the females of Nile Bolti (Tilapia nilotica), and to determine the most efficient hormone and its adequate doses in the different seasons for application on a commercial scale. 3) In the present thesis, a promising hormonal schedule is suggested, for the first time in Egypt, for induction of ripening of oocytes and spawning of a Nile fish allover the year. 4) 1234 female fish of Tilapia nilotica were used in the experiments of the present investigation. 5) The sources of hormones tested were classified into: A— Fish source as represented by extracts of acetone- dried pituitary glands of Cyprinus carpio (CP) prepared by Russian laboratories. |
