Abstract

This investigation was carried out during two successive seasons of 1988 and 1989, in both of the apple rchard of the Experimental Station and in the laboratory of the Institute of Fruits and Vegetables, University of bhenheim, Stuttgart, ERG.
The low level of Ca2+ in reproductive organs and leaf issues with low transpiration rate is associated with the evelopment of number of physiological and pathological isorders. For example, in apple fruits, there is an inverse curvilinear relationship between calcium concentration and fresh weight per fruit. In addition, the incidence of bitter pits, breakdown, sealed, and fungal rotting are also higher when Ca+2 content was low in apple fruits. rthermore, there is a substantial evidence that auxin (IAA) transport plays an important role in calcium alloction to developing tissues.
Accordingly, the present work was undertaken to test the interrelationship between polar basipetal transport of ,IAA and the acropetal movement of Ca, Mg and K into apple ruits. Certain horticultural practices that are known to affect auxin level together with spraying some auxinansport inhibitor (TIBA) or activators (PIX or GA3) were pplied on three apple cultivars to test their influence
