Abstract The present investigation was carried out at Mallawi Agricultural Research Station Farm, Agricultural Research Center, Ministry of Agriculture during 1993 and 1994 seasons. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of transplanting, population density through transplanting and fertilizers on growth, earliness, yield and quality of the Egyptian cotton. This study was conducted on the cotton variety, Giza 83. It is one of the long staple varieties. The design perfornwd was split-plot design, in which planting methods were alloted in the main plots. The fertilizers were in the sub-plots. The results obtained in this respect could be summarized as follows: 1- Growth traits: l.a. Number of survival hills/faddan reacted significantly to planting methods in favour of direct sowing at 20cm between MIs in both studied seasons. However, fertilizer treatments and interaction involved did not show any significant effect at 5% level on number of survival hills/faddanin both seasons. 1.b. Number of fruiting branches/plant showed that, transplanting, population density through transplanting and fertilizer treatments did not effect significantly number of fruiting branches/plant in both seasons. However, the interaction involved exerted a significant effect in this respect only in 1994 season. 1.c. Plant height, transplanting and population density through transplanting exerted a significant affect only in 1993 season in. |
