This investigation was carried out to study the effect of plant densities, i.e. distance between drills and hills and phosphatic fertilizer on growth, yield and quality of chick pea. The experiments were conducted during the growing seasons of 1980/81 and 1981/82, in the Agicu1tural Experimental farm of Faculty of Agriculture Assiut. The split—split plot design was applied with four replications, where the distance between drills were assigned to be in the whole plots and the hill bpacings was arranged in the sub—plots, while phosphatic fertilizer were distributed in the sub—sub plot. The plot area was 1/800 faddan (faddazi = 4200 in2). Two distmices between drills were applied i.e., 20 and 30 cm, while the distance between hills were 5, 10 and 15 cm. There were four rates of ptosphatic fertilizers i.e. cerO, 30, 60 and 90 kg 2°5 “ faddan.
The data recorded during growth period as plant samples. Growth characters i.e. plant height, leaf/stem ratio, top/root ratio and total dry weight of the plant, were recorded during growth period at plant ages of 6o, 90 and 120 days from sowing, rnnber of branches and height of plant were also measured at harvest. Yield and yield components were recorded at harvest on plant samples
