Abstract Solar energy can be effectively used for drying agriculture products particularly where the cost of fuel for conventional drying methods is high or in regions where fuels are not available. The studying of the products thin layer solar drying characteristics under various conditions including the determination of the different drying periods is important for the drying units design. The drying of agricultural products is a complicated heat and mass transfer process. It depends on external variables such as temperature, humidity and velocity of the air stream. It depends also on internal variables such as surface characteristics of the material (rough or smooth surface), its chemical composition (sugars, starches, protein, etc.), physical structure (porosity, density, etc.), size and the shape of the product. |
