Abstract

This work was carried on 45 adult goats to conduct an experimental and field studies .The experimental study preformed for the evaluation of the use of probiotics as yeast (Tonilest) and Biogen on the ruminal contents, blood and some serum parameters of healthy goats while field study aimed to determine the efficacy of using probiotics beside traditional line of treatment for treating goats suffered from simple indigestion.
1-Experimental study:
The experimental study was done upon 15 clinically healthy goats in the Farm of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Alexandria University. Goats were divided into 3 subgroups each consisted of 5 goats. The first subgroup was used as a control while the 2nd and3rd subgroups were supplied with yeast (Tonilest) which added to the ration in a rate of 500 gm/ton concentrates for the 2nd subgroup and Biogen which added to ration at a rate of 1 kg/ton concentrates for the 3rd ,for 8 weeks. All subgroups fed on dry ration.
1.1- Effect of probiotics on the rumen juice:
The use of probiotics had no effect on the physical characters of the rumen juice including color, odor, consistency and sedimentation activity rate.
The ruminal pH was significantly decreased after using of yeast (Tonilest) reached the level of 6.20±0.05, in which yeast supplementation was found to stabilize the ruminal PH values than in those goats supplemented with Biogen.
The total volatile fatty acids and ammonia concentration in the rumen juice of goats received yeast and Biogen were highly significantly increased than in control group. Ammonia concentration was significantly increased after Biogen supplementation while total volatile fatty acids concentration was significantly increased in the group supplemented with yeast in their ration.
Concerning activity and number of ruminal microfauna for using of yeast and Biogen a significant increase in their number and still highly active, highly motile and overcrowded. The highest numbers were recorded after using yeast 11.60±1.51x105/ml) and Biogen 8.80±1.10 /ml) during the feeding of dry ration, respectively.
1.2- The effect of probiotics on blood hematology:
The results of hemograms (including PCV%,HB concentration, total erythrocytic count, total and differential leucocytic count) showed non significant changes in their level between the control group and probiotics supplemented groups
1.3- The effect of probiotics on blood biochemistry:
The activities of AST and ALT were significantly decreased in yeast and Biogen supplemented groups than in control group which mean enhancement of liver function after using of probiotics.
Serum glucose, total protein, albumin, globulin and A/G ratio, urea and total cholesterol showed non significant changes between the control and probiotics supplemented groups.
Level of serum triglycerides was showed significant increase in probiotics treated groups than in control group.
Field studies
It was carried on 30 adult goats, 10 clinical healthy goats were taken as con
