Abstract Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the major unresolved global health problems. Over the past two decades, two major obstacles to global TB control have emerged. The first is the high prevalence of human immunodeficiency virus among TB patients in certain regions, and the second is the growing problem of anti-tuberculous drug resistance. Mortality associated with multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) is extremely high and in many cases is worse than the mortality from TB in the pre-chemotherapy era. |
